About Action Plan Marketing

Hi, my name is Robert Middleton. Many years ago I didn't have a clue about marketing a business. I struggled to attract clients like everyone else.

A big turning point was when I read a book, Guerrilla Marketing, by Jay Conrad Levinson, and I got hooked. Finally, a book that explained how marketing worked for a small business owner like myself. That book removed a lot of the mystery of marketing and ultimately put me on the path to becoming a marketing consultant and coach to thousands of Independent Professionals.

My approach was always very hands on. I tried something myself and if it worked, I taught it to my clients. Therefore all my work was very practical. I studied all the theories, the models, the ideas behind marketing, but what my clients needed were hands-on strategies and techniques to attract more clients to their businesses. Over the years I developed my own strategies and approaches to professional service business marketing that worked very consistently for my clients.

In 2000 I published the "InfoGuru Marketing Manual" which summed up my complete system for attracting clients. Over the years it has sold thousands of copies just from my online store. And the people who bought it and applied its ideas wrote me with their success stories.

I should have been satisfied, but I wasn't. Because along with the success stories, a lot of people told me that they really liked the information the manual contained, but had trouble implementing a lot of it. And what I realized, like most books or manuals, there is so much information that it becomes overwhelming. It's hard for many to know where to start and what to do.

After publishing the manual I led several virtual workshops by teleconference called "Marketing Action Groups." I was teaching the same information, but because I gave step-by-step instructions, and homework, a larger percentage of people were applying the ideas and implementing them successfully in their business.

The only problem with the Marketing Action Groups was that I was getting burned out doing them, yet wanted to make this material available to even more people. So in late 2008 I came up with the idea of an online membership site that would teach my marketing principles and practices. That site is now the More Clients Club.

In the process of developing and presenting this material online, I've worked to make the core marketing lessons in the Club as simple, clear and step-by-step as possible. And I've made the lessons more interactive as well. People can not only read and listen to the marketing lessons, they can do the how-to-exercises right on the web site. They can even make comments about each lesson and read what other are saying as they work on that lesson. The program takes them step-by-step through everything someone needs to attract more clients to their business and makes the process as painless as possible.

Action Plan Marketing is always a work in progress. I'll be adding new programs, interviews, marketing samples and resources to the Club on a regular basis. In addition, I'm now creating a series of Virtual Workshops that focus intensively on one key marketing area.
